Our display last year

This coming weekend is the EP!C Sustainable Living Expo. We’re going to have a table in the Community section of the show. We were there last year as well, and had a great response from the attendees.

Shows with a progressive audience are great, since so many people are ready and willing to hear about animal rights and veganism. If you are going to be at the show (it’s fun!) do stop by our table and say hi. We’d love to see you!

EPIC wrap-up

Wednesday, May 13th, 2009

Finally getting around to posting about our final day at EPIC. I think for the next event, unless I have a lot to tell, I’ll just wait and do one post per event.

Next weekend is EAT! Vancouver which will hopefully be uneventful. I say hopefully because there are a lot of “organizations” there who may be bothered that we are there. We’ll see. The plan is be low-key and focused mostly on the environment and respect for animals.

Anyway, the final day of EPIC was good. I got some more delicious free coffee from Salt Spring Coffee. Yum.

Good coffee!

One of the best things about being at this show was that so many people were friendly and either already veg or moving in that direction. Many people stopped by and said they were reducing the amount of meat in their diet. Lots of people expressed real concern for animals.

We gave out hundreds of leaflets (including over 125 copies of Peta’s Vegetarian Starter Kit and almost 100 of Farm Sanctuary’s Guide to Veg Living). 138 people walked away with our new environment leaflet. I was actually worried that we might run out of information to give out!

Dad, what’s A-S-S? EPIC day 2

Saturday, May 9th, 2009

Ok, so the title actually refers to the funniest thing that happened yesterday, but I thought it made a good title…

We had a pin out that said “meat tastes like ass”, which is funny and people seem to love it. This really nice family came by with two young boys who were looking at the pins. They wanted to each get one, and one of the boys looks up and says “Dad, what’s A-S-S?”

They ended up getting one of the “eat tofu” pins and a “save our seals” pin. Nice kids. I wonder if dad ever explained what A-S-S is?

Anyway, that was yesterday’s funniest moment. Today was less eventful, but there were lots more people at EPIC today. We were seriously running low on a lot of our leaflets and information. Have to bring more for tomorrow.

Here are a bunch of photos from the day. Sorry for the fuzziness. Our better camera is broken, so we’ve had to use the crappy old one.

EPIC Vancouver – day 1

Saturday, May 9th, 2009

Yesterday (Friday) was the first day of the EPIC Sustainability Expo. We have a table at the show, in what I’m calling the “non-profit ghetto”.

It’s actually a nice spot, right in the center of the show, so not really a ghetto at all. We’re right next to the food displays, and right behind the Lexus display.

If you come to the show, just look for the giant Lexus sign and it’ll be easy to find us.

Here are some more photos from the event:
